About BattlePoint Aquaculture
BattlePoint Aquaculture is a locally-owned and operated business that has been raising the freshest, highest-quality clams since 2013. Their Metompkin Bay, Virginia farm-raised clams are grown in pristine seaside conditions on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and are sustainably grown using put-and-take fishery methods.
The name BattlePoint comes with a bit of a backstory. Since the turn of the 19th century, the abundant tidal fishing grounds on the Eastern Shore of Virginia were hotly contested by fishermen looking to lay claim to the bay’s rich and abundant shellfish resources. In many instances, these conflicts came to violent resolution in the rush to harvest these waters. As a result, many watermen set up “watch houses” to keep an eye out for anyone intruding on their tidal claims. Our property, BattlePoint, is one of these such properties overlooking Metompkin Bay. Unfortunately, as a result of overfishing, much of the natural clam and oyster population was depleted. Today, the move toward sustainable aquaculture has resulted in a re-population of the bay and contributed to a healthier ecology.

Full Measure Oyster Company is the first and only oyster farm to implement a 100% carbon-neutral production plan. They rely on 124 solar panels to fully power their land-based operations, producing over 60,000 kilowatt hours of usable energy annually. This solar energy offsets the entire property’s electrical cost and even allows them to sell excess energy back to the local electric cooperative. By harnessing solar power, Full Measure minimizes their environmental impact, ensuring that their operations are as eco-friendly as possible.
Sustainable Practices by Full Measure
Full Measure Oyster Company’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond solar power. They are transitioning to an eco-friendly transport fleet, using clean idle eco-diesel trucks to deliver their products while minimizing their carbon footprint. Additionally, they utilize a 50 KWH propane generator for backup power, with plans to replace it with a battery system in the future.
